What clients have shared

These are real experiences from business owners who've worked with Maple Ledger across our three service areas.

"I was managing my own books for three years and always felt behind. After switching to Maple Ledger's monthly service, I finally have financial statements I can actually use — and I understand what they're telling me. The monthly written summary they include has been particularly valuable."

"Tax season used to be stressful. This year, I handed over my documents, had one meeting to review the return, and everything was filed. David walked me through each section and made sure I wasn't just signing something I didn't understand. That level of care is hard to find."

"We were at a point where our revenue had grown past what I could handle with a basic bookkeeper, and I knew we needed proper planning. Marc helped us restructure our compensation and think through our RRSP approach in a way that made a real difference. The advisory sessions are thoughtful and well-prepared."

"I asked three different firms for a quote before going with Maple Ledger. The others either didn't explain their fees clearly or felt impersonal. With Maple Ledger I knew exactly what I was paying before signing anything, and Sandra has been responsive every time I've had a question — which has been more than a few times."

"As someone who runs a retail shop, my cash flow is seasonal and sometimes hard to explain to a bank. Having clean monthly financials from Maple Ledger made a credit application much easier this past fall. The bank wanted records, and I had exactly what they asked for."

"I'm a freelance software developer and honestly didn't think I needed help until my business income crossed a threshold where decisions got complicated. The advisory engagement helped me figure out the incorporation question I'd been putting off for two years. Clear, helpful, no unnecessary complications."

Case studies

A closer look at how specific business owners worked through financial challenges with Maple Ledger's support.

Case Study — Bookkeeping

From shoe box to structured records in four months

The Challenge

A Toronto-based photography business had two years of mixed records — paper receipts, unsorted bank statements, and an inconsistent spreadsheet — heading into tax season.

Our Approach

We completed a full catch-up of 24 months of records, organized all documentation, and set up an ongoing monthly bookkeeping engagement going forward.

The Outcome

Tax returns were filed accurately, a $3,800 deduction that had been missed was identified, and the client now receives clean monthly reports within five days of month-end close.

Case Study — Tax Filing

A first incorporated filing, handled without surprises

The Challenge

A management consultant had incorporated for the first time and was uncertain about the T2 process, what expenses were deductible, and how to handle HST remittances properly.

Our Approach

We prepared the full T2 corporate return, reviewed all expense categories, identified applicable deductions, and held a 90-minute pre-filing session to walk through each section together.

The Outcome

The client filed with confidence, having understood everything on the return. The engagement took four weeks from initial contact to submission. The client has returned each year since.

Case Study — Advisory

Structuring growth thoughtfully at CAD 220K revenue

The Challenge

An interior design firm reaching CAD 220K in annual revenue was paying themselves fully as salary, contributing nothing to RRSP, and uncertain about whether a holding company made sense for their situation.

Our Approach

We reviewed their compensation structure, modelled salary-dividend combinations, analyzed the holding company question for their specific situation, and developed a two-year plan.

The Outcome

A restructured compensation approach and the start of RRSP contributions resulted in meaningful improvements to their overall financial position. The written advisory report continues to inform decisions made throughout the year.
